Padiham win in the LFA U18s Youth Cup
Arkwrights (yellow) v Earnshaw Bridge - Division 2
Another soggy Sunday and sweet FA. Well almost, we did manage to get two games played but lost 34 to the weather which means that we have had 180 games postponed to date. We have played 248 league games and there are 422 remaining, however we have completed 131 of the 181 cup games so there are just 50 cup games left. Fixtures boss Mark Moore is not pressing the panic button just yet but he, like the rest of us, needs a break from this miserable weather.
Two of the LFA U18s Youth Cup quarter-final games involving three of our youth teams were postponed and as a result, BAE Warton, Winstanley Warriors and Winstanley Warriors Reds will be playing their LFA Cup games next Sunday. However, the good news is that Padiham travelled to Southport and won 5-2 which sees them into the semi-finals and we are guaranteed another semi-finalist as Winstanley Warriors Reds will play BAE Warton. Well done Padiham.
AFC Longridge got caught up in the delays caused by a major accident on the M61 and as the Motorway was then closed their game at Bolton Lads & Girls Club had to be postponed. You just couldn’t make it up.
The only Open Age game played was between division 2 leaders Arkwrights and Earnshaw Bridge. Two sides who progressed from division 3 last term and both play attractive football which was no help to Arkwrights this morning as they went down 4-3 to the lads from Earnshaw Bridge. Arkwrights scorers were Chris Darwen and Mark Taylor (2) bringing his tally for the season to 28. The Bridge goals came from Karl Marrow, Josh Briggs, Conor Davis and Mark Carlton.
When Lostock St Gerards Blues found out that Tardy Gate would be unfit for their Youth Division Blue game with table toppers Euxton Villa they went and hired Brownedge St Marys to get the game played but they went down 7-1 to the on form Euxton outfit whose goals came rom Jamie Kinloch, Ian Mercer, Alex Ostridge, Lewis Sullivan (2), George Simmons and Joseph Bowden.
