Winstanley Warriors reach LFA U18s Youth Cup Final
Winstanley Warriors FC
Winstanley Warriors (youth division red) beat Nelson FC of the North West Combination 2-1 today to reach the LFA U18s Youth Cup Final and they made history in the process as both finalists of this important competition will be from the Lancashire Sunday League.
The other semi-final BAE Warton (youth division white) v Padiham (youth division red) was postponed again today and the teams will make every effort to get the game played next Sunday.
As Nelson’s games in the NW Combination kick off at 2.00pm, Winstanley Warriors agreed to a later start and they must have wondered if their generosity had worked against them as they faced a stiff wind in the first half and found themselves 1-0 down at half time. No doubt a stirring half-time pep talk from manager Shaun Rotherham worked wonders as their talisman goal scorer Callum Best netted twice in the first 20 minutes of the second half to turn the tie on its head and book Winstanley a Final date at the LFA County ground on a date to be decided.
Callum Best has netted 23 goals in just 10 games to date and his team mate Dylan Rutter has bagged 17 in 12 games making them a potent strike force. This is Winstanley Warriors first season in our league, they are currently second in youth division red with games in hand and their team in youth division white (Winstanley Warriors Reds) reached the quarter-final of the LFA U18s Youth Cup and they have a 100% record in the league.
We managed to get two league games played in the Open Age section, both in division 1 where leaders Bolton Lads & Girls Club travelled to AC Longridge and won 4-0 thanks to goals from Keane Mills, Peter Lancaster (2) and Jake O’Brien. The Bolton outfit have 28 points from 11 games and they have Southport & Ainsdale Amateurs with 20 points from 8 games hot on their heels. Southport & AA had a comfortable 8-0 home win against Warton today, Daniel Spencer, Chris Bates, Kevin Edgar (2), Kristian Solaru, Daniel Boden, Richard Wincer and Jordan Middleton scored their goals.
Three games played in the Youth Section where in division red AFC Fylde and Lostock St Gerards drew 2-2 with George Morris getting both Lostock goals and league leaders Bolton County beat Southport 2-0 thanks to strikes from George Bowers and Freddie Stevens. And finally, Springfields are up to second spot in youth division blue after their 3-2 win away at Lostock St Gerards Blues with the game played on the 3G pitch at Brownedge St Marys HS. Ethan Moyles and Reece Tarney were on target for St Gerards whilst Thavid Tsimboykas (2) and Alex Flanegan-Gill got the Springfields goals.
