Referee Michael Oliver at Preston Referees Society
Preston Referees Society is delighted to announce that top Premier League referee Michael Oliver will be the speaker at their meeting at PNE on Monday 3rd September at 7.30pm.
Michael Oliver has had a spectacular career in refereeing. He was appointed to the Football League list of referees in 2007 at the age of 22 and to the Premier League list of referees in 2010 at the age of 25 where he has been a consistent performer at the top level of English football for the past eight years. He was elected onto the FIFA list of referees in 2012 and to the elite group of UEFA referees in 2018.
Oliver was appointed fourth official for the 2013 League Cup final at Wembley Stadium. He refereed the FA Cup semi-final between Wigan Athletic and Millwall in April 2013 and in doing so became the youngest referee to take charge of an FA Cup semi-final. Wigan went on to win the FA Cup and played Manchester United in the subsequent FA Community Shield match in which Oliver was assigned as fourth official. He was the referee for the 2014 FA Community Shield between Arsenal and Manchester City. The FA Cup holders Arsenal won the match 3–0.
This season marks the 100th anniversary of Preston Referees Society, which has served the local leagues with distinction for the past century and it has produced some outstanding referees. There are currently three of its members on the list of Football League Referees, Michael & Graham Salisbury and Paul Marsden and another member Neil Swarbrick has just retired after serving for seven years on the Premier League list of referees.
The meeting will be held in the IP Lounge of Deepdale Stadium, Lowthorpe Road starting at 7.30pm. The Society extends a warm invitation to all referees, members or otherwise plus the officials of local football teams who would like to hear the experiences of one of Europe’s top officials.
