Mixed fortunes for new clubs in the Youth Cup

Today saw the opening fixtures in the League’s youth section with all teams playing in the first round of the Syndicate Trust Youth Cup. Several teams were making their league debut and there were mixed fortunes all around.

Layton Cavs (short for Cavendish) played fellow new boys AC Preston at Preston’s College and won 3-1, however their colleagues from Layton Lions had no such luck losing 9-0 to Ribbleton YFC. AFC Fylde Colts beat Springfields YFC 6-0 and Cherrybrook went down 3-1 at home to Padiham. Euxton Villa beat Chipping 3-0 whilst AFC Fylde beat Fulwood Amateurs 5-2 in an excellent game at Lightfoot Green.

There were big wins for BAC Warton YFC (the holders) against Mellor, Garstang at home to Mellor and Cadley away at Ribble Wanderers. Bolton County beat Lostock St Gerards 7-0, Astley & Buckshaw won 6-2 at Gregson Lane YFC, Fulwood Amateurs Blues won 2-1 at Haslingden St Marys and Poulton beat Mill Hill 3-0. Winstanley Warriors Reds won 5-0 at Southport and Coppull United won 7-1 at Tarleton Corinthians.

Acregate Lane LC stay top of the premier division without kicking a ball, but Hunters & Ingol Rangers are already breathing down their neck after winning 3-2 at Springfields to make it four wins out of four. Ribbleton beat AFC Ingol 4-0 thanks to goals from Liam Allen (2), Dominic McElhone and Gary Basterfield, Southport & Ainsdale Amateurs came from behind to win 4-2 at Tanterton and Bamber Bridge United beat Tulketh United 2-0.

Arkwrights won 6-0 at Worden Rangers to keep hold of the top spot in division 1 where they are joined on 15 points by Earnshaw Bridge who won 6-2 at AFC Longridge. Vernon Sports won 5-4 at Whittle Wanderers, Walton were held 1-1 at home by Warton and Wyresdale Rangers and Walton Athletic drew 2-2.

Newly promoted Sir Tom Finney obviously mean business in division 2, they beat Blackpool Town 9-1 today to maintain their 100% start in the league and striker Troy Pannett bagged a double hat trick. Leyland Orient’s good form continued with a 4-2 win at Fishwick Rangers, Kingsfold won 2-0 at Gregson Lane, Penwortham Town beat AFC Preston 1-0 and Waverley won 3-1 at Bamber Bridge Town.

BAE Warton sit on top of division 3 after beating Rufford Park Rangers 302 and Ribbleton Wanderers who won 3-1 at Tarleton Corinthians are in second spot. Lostock Hall won 4-1 at Midgery Court and have won all three league games and Tarleton Corinthians Whites won 4-3 at Park United.

Referees

The Lancashire Sunday League encourages all referees to become members of the Referees Association and it is League policy to give priority of appointments to those referees who are an RA member.

Preston Referees Society is based at Preston North End Football Club, Sir Tom Finney Way, Preston, PR1 6RU, they meet on the first Monday of each month during the football season and everyone is welcome to attend their meetings. The meetings start at 7.30pm and usually finish around 9.00pm.

Anyone interested in joining Preston Referees Society or has any queries about refereeing should contact the Society Secretary Shaun Taylor here.

Physical Training: The Society provides physical training for its members at UCLan Sports Arena Training every Monday evening between 6.30-7.30pm except on Society Monthly Meeting nights when it will be brought forward to 6.00-7.00pm.
