Sir Tom Finney pulled off a remarkable result this morning when they comprehensively beat Crown Paints, the holders of the LFA Sunday Trophy by a 5-3 score line in the their 3rd round tie at UCLan Sports Arena. Crown Paints, who sit on top of the Blackburn Sunday League premier division and were unbeaten this season, took an early lead but found themselves 4-2 down at half time. Both teams scored in the second half to make the final score 5-3 to Finneys.

This is Sir Tom Finneys sixth season in the league, after struggling in division 3 for three years they eventually found their form and won the title at the end of the 2017-18 season and they followed that by winning the division two title twelve months later. They currently sit on top of division 1 having won all five of their league games, scoring 45 goals and conceding just three.

Their progress up the league and their form this season has not gone unnoticed and has surprised several people but not their manager Michael Treacy who is well known in local football circles. Treacy has assembled a young team who are fit and well disciplined and they have an air of confidence about them. He said, “I warned the players of the task ahead of them this morning. They were playing arguably the best team in Lancashire and holders of this prestigious trophy and I told them that I was confident that they would give a good account of themselves. Well they certainly did that”.

The Finney scorers were Reece Turner (3), his bother Jake Turner and cousin Troy Pannett. The result sees them through to the last 16 of this competition and after today's result there will be plenty of clubs hoping to avoid them in the next round.

Hunters & Ingol Rangers beat Prestley 9-3 to progress to the next round of the LFA Sunday Trophy, they will be joined by AFC Ingol who beat Fulwood Park Rangers 6-0 and by Warton who had an excellent 6-0 win away at Springfield (Wigan).

North Lancs DC travelled to Walney Island for their LFA U18s Youth Cup game and they were rewarded with a 4-0 victory.
