Hunters & Ingol Rangers (HIR) powered into the semi-finals of the LFA Sunday Trophy with a 3-2 victory over Blackburn Eagles at a wind-swept Pleasington. The Eagles, who sit on top of their league beat Sir Tom Finney on penalties in the last round after Finney’s had beaten Crown Paints, the holders, in the previous round, so HIR knew that they had a game on their hands.
And so it proved after Blackburn Eagles took the lead after just eight minutes. The strong wind was proving a challenge for both sides but that didn’t stop Adam Stammers netting an equaliser on 36 minutes and the teams reached the interval with the score 1-1. HIR were straight out of the blocks in the second half and Dee Edmonds scored to give them a 2-1 lead and thing got even better on the 65th minute when Edmonds was on hand to make it 3-1. Eagles made it 3-2 on 70 minutes but HIR had enough in their locker to see the game out and claim their place in the semi-finals.
Lostock Hall’s LFA Trophy quarter-final against Highfield Social at Wren Rovers FC was postponed.
The weather dealt its usual hand this morning with more than half of our games postponed. Walton -le-Dale Wanderers and Warton drew 3-3 in the Challenge Cup whilst in the Presidents Cup South Ribble DC won 6-3 at Fulwood Park Rangers, Gregson Lane Wanderers beat Ribbleton Wanderers 6-3 and AFC Preston won 8-3 at Midgery Court.
BAE Warton won 7-4 at Bamber Bridge Town in division 3, in youth blue Longsands won 5-2 at Euxton Villa and Winstanley Warriors beat AFC Blackpool 6-2. Poulton Town Pumas won 5-1 at Ladybridge in youth red and Wyre Villa beat Fishwick Rangers 2-1.
