Coronavirus (COVID-19) - League Update

Following on from the suspension of football this weekend, there has been a briefing and a number of statements from the English FA and County FA in relation to the Coronavirus (COVID-19).

In essence, the English FA / LFA have ‘sat on the fence’ in regards of clear direction as to how this situation should be managed and have left it with an unqualified volunteer workforce to make decisions affecting social, medical and financial impacts on both clubs and families.

The health, safety and well being of all associated with our member clubs is of paramount importance. Until further information is available from the governing bodies, the league will be suspending all league organised football until the 3rd of April.

Unfortunately, the delay in completion of games may signal the end of the competitive divisional season, despite a possible extension and the best endeavours of the league. Only when we get clear and unambiguous guidance as to this developing situation will we fully understand what can be achieved.

In terms of the Syndicate Trust Cup competitions, we will again make a decision as to our ability to manage their conclusion within a reasonable time frame. We may also need to consider the venues as the postponement of fixtures will also impact on availability.

The Lancashire Sunday Football League will continue to monitor the progress of this crisis and will notify all member clubs accordingly once we have any updates.

Please ensure that you are advising anyone connected to your club and ask them to follow the guidance from Public Health England (PHE).

Issued by the League Management Committee
16 March 2020.
