Frank Thompson RIP
This League was saddened to learn of the death of Frank Thompson on Sunday 08 August 2020.
Frank Thompson was one of the founders Gregson Lane JFC in 1974 and the club now boasts no less than 16 teams ranging from U6 Development to Open Age and they have teams in all four of the local football leagues. Frank was always passionate about improving football facilities for local children. He was the Secretary of Gregson Lane Juniors from 1987 until ill health forced him to stand down.
He was the proud recipient of the Lancashire Football Association Long Service Award in 2016, which recognised his outstanding service to local football over a 40 year period. He was also invited to attend a Royal Garden party at Buckingham Palace.
Although retired, Frank was previously employed as a mechanical services engineer involving central heating, plumbing, air conditioning and associated services.
He will be fondly remembered as a loyal, kind and dedicated football official, he was always polite and courteous, and it was a pleasure and a privilege to work with him.
Our deepest condolences go to his wife Pauline and to his extended family of Children, Grandchildren and Great Grandchildren.
Rest in Peace Frank, you did your bit for local football and you will be sadly missed.
