LANCASHIRE SUNDAY FOOTBALL LEAGUE: October 2025 Update

AFC Preston continue to set the standard in the PREMIER DIVISION with five wins out of five to open their title defence. The reigning title holders remain involved in the Lancashire FA Sunday Trophy, they face Fulwood & Broughton in the next round in November. Irongate and Wyresdale Rangers face Penwortham St Teresa’s (Yellows) and Rufford Park Rangers respectively in their upcoming county cup games. Top goalscorer in the Premier Division is Irongate’s Joseph Richardson, he’s scored 13 in six appearances.

It’s still tight at the top in DIVISION ONE with two sides sitting on 19 points, Astley & Buckshaw Utd are at the summit with Presidents Cup holders AFC Preston (Reds) level in second. Only three points back are Burscough Villa, who have games in hand. Sir Tom Finney are fourth and Gregson Lane Wanderers, who have only played six league fixtures thus far, are fifth with 13 points.  Astley & Buckshaw Utd remain part of several cup competitions including the Syndicate Trust Presidents Cup, where they’ll play nearby Buckshaw and Highfield await in the Lancashire FA Sunday Trophy. The top three league goalscorers in Division One are Joel Chester with nine (Astley & Buckshaw), Rahil Patel has also scored nine (AFC Preston Reds) and Jack Mountain with eight (Gregson Lane Wanderers).

Chorley Wanderers (Blues) remain league leaders in DIVISION TWO with 25 points to their name but were held to a 4-4 draw by Parkfield Ants at Worden Park in October. Greenlands and Midgery Court are at the head of the chasing back, they both sit on 18 points with Parkfield in fourth on 16 and fifth-placed BAE Warton have amassed 15 points from their opening seven games. Greenlands are set to play AFC Radcliffe in the Lancashire FA Sunday Trophy. FC Bartle have lost all four of their games on their own patch but won all four on their travels, a similar story for Gregson Lane as the team from the Frank Thompson have lost all five at home but won three of five away fixtures. Parkfield Ants’ Charlie Howarth is top of the open age goalscorer standings with 16 to his name from just six appearances. James Norris for Chorley Wanderers (Blues) sits third with 13 in seven games.

Just two points separate the top four in DIVISION THREE as Penwortham St Teresa’s (Whites) and Moor Park Utd have been joined at the top by Tarleton Corinthians and Sporting Preston. Look for Buckshaw (Reds) to have a big say in the title chase, they face both Penwortham St Teresa’s (Whites) and Tarleton early in November. Only Premier leaders AFC Preston have scored more home goals across the open age structure than Moor Park, who have scored 24. It’s a stark contrast to Tarleton, who have scored only four at home in the same amount of games but notched 21 on the road.

DIVISION FOUR continues to be the place to be for goals as the league table has shuffled throughout October. Whittle, Croston Sports Club and AFC Bamber led the way at the end of September, it’s now Buckshaw, AFC Horwich and Croston occupying the top three spots. Two Division Four forwards are in the top five open age league goalscorers with Taylor Royle of Freckleton (U23) second with 14 and Jacob Pridgeon fifth for Whittle having found the back of the net 11 times.

The youth section has been full of cup fixtures in October but three teams remain unbeaten in league action in YOUTH DIVISION BLUE as Longridge Town, Trimpell & Bare Rangers and Sir Tom Finney YFC (U17) are yet to taste defeat. Longridge will face Fulwood Amateur (Blues) in the Lancashire FA Under-18 Youth Cup.

Burscough Dynamo have raced into a three-point lead at the top of YOUTH DIVISION RED but they have picked up nine of their ten points on the road. In addition to Longridge Town, Burnley Utd will represent Youth Division Red in the next round of the Lancashire FA Under-18 Youth Cup as they travel to C.M.B. Sports Club early in November.

YOUTH DIVISION WHITE has seen Leyland Albion ascend to top spot. Albion defeated Chipping, Appley Bridge, Astley & Buckshaw Juniors (Blues) and Lostock Hall (Blacks) in an October that could bring momentum for the rest of the season. Lostock St Gerards (U18)’s travel to Daten Tigers in the Lancashire FA Under-18 Youth Cup.
