LANCASHIRE SUNDAY FOOTBALL LEAGUE: August 2026 Update

With new leagues, new teams, players and officials, the 2026-27 Lancashire Sunday Football League season is underway. In August the open age competition took centre stage with youth (Under-18) fixtures to begin in September.

DIVISION ONE

With last season’s Premier Division Champions AFC Preston and second-placed Fulwood & Broughton no longer part of the structure, Division One took over as the top league competition with eleven teams participating. Irongate started well, looking to turn third place last season into a title winning campaign, recording three home wins against Burscough Villa, Ribbleton and Greenlands. Wyresdale Rangers are level at the summit on nine points themselves, having recorded victories over Ribbleton, Chorley Wanderers (Blues) and Lonsdale Casuals. Both Southport & Ainsdale Amateurs (Blues) and FC Preston Reds are also yet to taste defeat. Wyresdale’s Max Cornthwaite leads the Division One goalscoring chart with seven in his opening three league fixtures.

DIVISION TWO

Only one team has won four games from four played in Division Two, that honour belongs to Penwortham St Teresa’s (Whites). Second in Division Three last season behind Moor Park United by one point, they have hit the ground running led by Ben Rooke and Charlie Baxendale scoring eight goals between them. Sir Tom Finney have amassed three wins from their four games and Gregson Lane Wanderers are close behind the top two on seven points, they possess the top league scorer in Division Two as Dion Holden has found the back of the net nine times already.

DIVISION THREE

Kirkham Seniors and Theatre Boys sit first and second on the Division Three ladder with a perfect six points from two league games thus far. Both Whittle and Atletico Chequers also have six points but have played one additional game. All four sides will be tested early in September as Kirkham play Worden Rangers, Theatre Boys have Whittle and Atletico Chequers are on the road at Tarleton Corinthians. The leading goalscorer in Division Three is AFC Horwich forward Adam Cormican.

DIVISION FOUR

Three wins from their opening three league fixtures sees new side Tanterton & Ingol occupy top spot in Division Four. Tanterton’s Paul Day leads the charts in goals scored, he has nine to his name, while Chorley Wanderers‘ Isaac Rothwell isn’t far behind on six. Leyland Albion are second with nine points, both Sporting Euxton and Chorley Wanderers (Whites) have earned seven. Look for Division Four to be one of the most competitive Lancashire Sunday Football League competitions again this season.
