LANCASHIRE SUNDAY FOOTBALL LEAGUE: September 2025 Update

Two teams sit atop the PREMIER DIVISION with a perfect record of three wins out of three with AFC Preston and Fulwood & Broughton setting the early pace. It’s particularly impressive from Fulwood & Broughton, who come into the season as Challenge Cup winners having already defeated Ribbleton, Irongate and fellow promoted side Wyresdale Rangers. Both sides advanced in the Lancashire FA Sunday Trophy, where they’ll be joined in the next round by Irongate and Ribbleton.

No teams remain unbeaten in DIVISION ONE with Presidents Cup holders AFC Preston (Reds) continuing their fine form from last season to sit first as we tick over into October after six games played. Astley & Buckshaw Utd are second, level with the leaders on 13 points. Sir Tom Finney sit third just three points shy of the two teams above but with a game in hand. On paper, the toughest and most competitive league in the entire Open Age structure as teams gear up for promotion to the Premier Division, so it has proven with last season’s beaten Presidents Cup finalists Rufford Park Rangers at the foot of the table, a place they are unlikely to remain.

Six wins out of six has been the perfect 18-point start for Chorley Wanderers (Blues) in DIVISION TWO, they have been as impressive on the road as they have at home with two successes at Worden Park and four on their travels. Expect them to be a major force in the Syndicate Trust Challenge Cup this season. Behind the Wanderers, four clubs sit on 12 points – Greenlands, Parkfield Ants, BAE Warton and SRDC (Blues). Of those four, Parkfield Ants are yet to taste league defeat having played just four games thus far and feature 10-goal forward Charlie Howarth.

Penwortham St Teresa’s (Whites) and Moor Park Utd are the pacesetters in DIVISION THREE with the two sides very much a contrast. The Whites are newly promoted after being last season’s cup giant-killers, while Moor Park have steadily built an improving squad over the past few seasons.  A team to watch could be Buckshaw (Reds), new to the league but showing promise in progressing through two rounds in the Challenge Cup.

If goals on a Sunday morning is what you are looking for, DIVISION FOUR is the place to be. Leaders Whittle have the overall top league goalscorer in Jacob Pridgeon, he has bagged a sensational eleven goals in just five appearances. Croston Sports Club sit second with a resurgent AFC Bamber third. Three wins for them this season mean they have already matched last season’s total as we enter October.

The youth section has just got underway midway through September with Brinscall Village U17 (Blues), Longridge Town, Grimsargh Village (U18) and Sir Tom Finney YFC (U17) unbeaten in YOUTH DIVISION BLUE. Trimpell & Bare Rangers are yet to take to the field in league action. Over in YOUTH DIVISION RED, Burscough Dynamo lead the way with one win and a draw from their two games played but the league itself has only seen four games played. It’s a similar story in YOUTH DIVISION WHITE, where no team has earned more than three points. Expect those leagues to feature next month as the sides get more fixtures under their collective belts.
